Are your advertising campaigns wasting your time and money?

"Companies spend billions of marketing dollars each year to design memorable ad campaigns. But what does it really take to make your business's name or message stick in a prospect's mind?" asks Kim Gordon in Entrepreneur magazine.

Build on the sound principles in Kim's article, and your ads will be noticed and remembered. They will get your company more business.

    Holiday Meal Disaster
    .
The holidays are a terrific excuse to do the socializing we like to do with our important clients and professional contacts. A celebratory dinner, a relaxed lunch, an unhurried snack -- what fun!

But, make sure your eating habits are not turning your fellow diners away from the deal.

"It was difficult to pay attention to what my lunch partner was saying," reports Joan Lloyd. "Salad dressing was dribbling into his beard and bits of food were popping out of his mouth as he spoke. His voice seemed far away as my own mental voice said, 'Maybe you should tell him he's wearing most of his lunch on his face.' I forced myself to refocus on what he was saying, '...So I was thinking we could become strategic partners and refer clients to each other...' Fat chance, I thought.

Even if your mother wasn't Emily Post you'll enjoy these detailed suggestions on navigating around the business dinner table. Read them, and then go out and have a wonderful meal!

    Steering the Request for Proposal
    .
What percentage of proposals do you win? Do you and your staff spend hours without reward either because you lose the job or because you've cut the profit out of a bid?

"Your job is to make yourself a winner before the proposal happens by creating conditions or terms that preclude others from either bidding or winning," says sales expert Jeffrey Gitomer.

Rather than being reactive to each Request for Proposal, you can use Jeff's techniques to either avoid a formal proposal or else make sure that the client's RFP has your strengths written into it.

If your proposal effort is not giving you a good return, take a gulp and try some of the gutsy -- and smart -- techniques to handle proposals presented in the article below.

Not even CPA's LIKE thinking about taxes. And, we don't like nagging you to think about them. That makes us feel like the hated high school vice-principal in charge of discipline.

But, this year there have been many changes in the law. You may pay less taxes if you review your situation and take action before the end of 2003.

Please contact us if you would like to discuss whether you need a formal tax projection or if you have other questions. We want you to retain as much of your financial success as the law allows. And, we promise not to treat you like a recalcitrant teenager.
